Bird Tables

When small birds gather around the food, nature comes right up close – even from a kitchen window or a small balcony. Bird tables and feeders are available in open, covered, hanging and window-mounted models, so the feeding station can suit both the surroundings and the birds that visit it.

Bird table or bird feeder?

An open bird table provides an unobstructed view of the visitors, while a roof offers better protection for the food from rain and snow. On an open table, birds can stand directly in the food, so a model that is easy to empty and wash makes a real difference. Where space is limited, a compact table may be ideal; for seeds, nuts and suet products, a bird feeder where the birds do not stand in the food may be a more hygienic alternative.

Where should the bird table be placed, and how do you keep it clean?

Place the table in a stable location with an unobstructed view, so the birds can spot danger while still being close enough to bushes or trees to quickly seek shelter. Remove wet and old food, and clean the table and bowls regularly. Several small feeding stations can reduce crowding and make routine cleaning more manageable.
