The oystercatcher is a wading bird that spends the winter in the Netherlands, Belgium and northern France, returning to Denmark in February. It feeds mainly on mussels - hence its English name, oystercatcher, an "oyster catcher". The oystercatcher is the national bird of the Faroe Islands.

The wooden bird is part of the Swedish company Wildlife Garden's series of decorative birds, featuring a range of the most popular birds. The series is constantly expanding, with new lifelike bird species being added.
