The story behind La Siesta

La Siesta was founded by Dorothee and Alexander Grisar back in 1991. From the very beginning, their aim has always been to produce high-quality hammocks based on traditional, authentic manufacturing methods. That is why their hammocks and hanging chairs are handmade in Colombia, among other places. Dorothee has had a particular flair for developing new products—with a focus on patterns and colours—while Alexander's key strengths have included launching hammocks and hanging chairs in new markets around the world. Although their sons Maximilian, Leonid, and Cornelius now run the business, Dorothee and Alexander still have an enormous influence on La Siesta's continued development.

Focus on CSR

La Siesta has distinguished itself by being the first hammock manufacturer in the world to produce hammocks and hanging chairs made from certified organic cotton. This certification is only awarded to products that meet specific environmental and social obligations towards cotton farmers in the respective countries of production. These obligations include, for example, improving working conditions for Colombian farmers, protecting cotton plantations from pollution, maintaining soil quality and much more.

Luxury hammocks and hanging chairs

At Hokus Krokus, you will find a wide range of hammocks and hanging chairs from La Siesta. For example, you will find our organic La Siesta lounge hanging chair, which is a relatively large hanging chair made from 100% organic cotton. It can be used both indoors and outdoors; however, if you choose to use it outside, remember to bring the hanging chair indoors if it rains or when the dew falls in the evening.

In addition to hanging chairs, as mentioned, you will also find a wide variety of exciting hammocks from La Siesta, both with and without spreader bars. Our range includes our Flora Curacao hammock, a large, 180-centimetre-wide family hammock that can support 200 kg. The edges of this large hammock are also woven to be extra strong, resulting in a very robust hammock.
