The story behind La Siesta

La Siesta was created by Dorothee and Alexander Grisars back in 1991. Their aim has - from the very beginning - always been to produce quality hammocks based on the traditional, authentic manufacturing methods. Therefore, their hammocks and hanging chairs, among other things, handcrafted in Columbia. Dorothee has particularly had a flair for developing new products - including with a focus on patterns and colors - where Alexander's top skills include has been in the field of launching hammocks and hanging chairs in new markets around the world. Although today it is the sons Maximilian, Leonid and Cornelius who manage the business, Dorothee and Alexander still have a huge influence on La Siesta's further development.

La Siesta has, among other things, made a name for itself by being the first manufacturer of hammocks in the world to produce hammocks and hanging chairs in certified organic cotton. This certification is only given to products that fulfill special environmental and social obligations towards cotton farmers in the respective production countries. These commitments entail, for example, that La Siesta facilitates the working conditions of Colombian farmers, protects cotton plantations from pollution, maintains soil conditions and much more.
